What is 'Art' to me?
Many of the readers and people whom I meet online and offline, often throw towards me questions like "What do you think you are creating?", "What are your expectations with this?" and "These are just pictures of naked girls, where is art in it?". I began contemplating these head on questions and though to pen down what does art mean to me, and what can you expect from this blog.
Well, to start with, to define art is in itself a misnomer. Art, in any form, is essentially breaking of the general rules of the game (often called as iconoclastic). May it be painting, music, dancing, sculpturing, any sport, oration, and almost everything. The same holds true for all forms of photography. Like the Laurel Ulrich book "Well-behaved women seldom make history", in our photography parlance, it goes this way "a technically sound photograph seldom make history."
The legendary Monalisa by millennial's best painter Leonardo Da Vinci is a epitome of iconoclast for painting rules. And it still is one of the best painting ever made in the history of human. Well, that's what many artists say. I feel classifying any art as best or worst is not doing justice to the rest or any of the works around the world by others.
Music, like any other art forms has evolved with music theories and academic rules. But what sounds best to my ears cannot be just penned down. The whole level of complexities and variabilities that come with every note or a beat makes it difficult to theorize. And the greatest of players, bands and singers from BB King, Elvis Presley, Mark Knopfler and Jimi Hendrix, to Beethoven and Mozart, to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, they have definitely not abide by the rules of the music.
Photography is another such art which, many claim, has emerged in contemporary times of technological advancements of cameras and highly sophisticated gears. But it is essentially diverted road from the roots of art of painting. More like one who can't paint, create a setup with subjects, concepts, moods and emotions of which they envision (just like a painter would do) and then click it rather than paint.
What does my art mean to me?
Amidst this cacophony and blaring flashy tick-tokers,
Amidst this era of alacritous pleasure of heroic slow-motion,
Amidst this self-sexual objectification of their bodies,

Lie my works,
for which not one visits,
for which not one patiently awaits,
to stop, sit, relax, and stare, and a little longer,
to think, rethink and feel the wonders calmness create
to not just in mine but yours mind too.

Amidst this hyper-kinetic millennials,
Lie my works of art,
that aren't perfect but meaningful,
Amidst this crowd of live and instant chat,
Lie my works of art,
that aren't glamorous but peaceful,
Amidst this content of say-it all,
Lie my works of art,
that aren't so loud but decipherable for all.
